The Carmeuse Group owns and operates an international network of lime plants that produce high calcium, dolomitic and hydrated lime.

Either mined or quarried these products start out as raw limestone product before being calcined in kilns at very high temperatures.

Depending on end-use needs and applications, limestone aggregates can also be sold as end product.  The construction and power industry will often use limestone aggregates in their processes.  Special, chemical grade limestone can be used as filler in the concrete and asphalt business. Globally, Carmeuse is one of the leading producers of lime and limestone. 


Overall, lime is a highly versatile product that is broadly used in many different industries and for many different applications. Steel manufacturing, flue gas desulfurization, water and wastewater treatment, environmental treatments, construction, agriculture, pulp and paper, glass making, energy exploration, the chemical industry and recreational applications comprise the key markets that Carmeuse supplies and serves. 

Building & Civil Construction

These industries provide specific needs and uses for hydrated lime.  Most notably, hydrated lime is commonly used in masonry and plaster mortars with an inherent quality of making them “breathable.”  This quality provides healthy conditions and environments within structures and dwellings.

Environmental Benefits

Many industrial uses of lime and limestone greatly benefit the environment.  From clean air and water to soil remediation, lime and limestone affect the world in which we live in a positive way.

  • AIR: the treatment and removal of harmful flue gas emissions from boilers, steam generators, process furnaces, and incinerators.
  • WATER: the purification of liquid runoffs and discharges from many industrial manufacturing processes.
  • SOIL: treating soils that have been contaminated by industrial byproducts and waste or sludge generated by rigorous agricultural production.

Industrial Benefits

Lime is used to remove impurities from the ores of non-ferrous metals such as gold, copper and aluminum.  

Agriculture/Agrofood Benefits

In agriculture and in the agrofood industry, calcium carbonate and lime is widely used as a soil stabilizer and as an additive in animal feed and human food.  Lime also eliminates the mineral and organic impurities in the production of sugar.
